This problem occurs only when Ubuntu is installed in CSM mode (BIOS emulation +
MBR partition table) or when live CD systems are booted while in CSM mode.
In order to leave this CSM mode and use the "native" UEFI mode, I had to
install Windows 7 in UEFI mode. After doing that, suspend to RAM works in
Ubuntu live CD systems. It still works after installing Ubuntu and wiping
Windows. (I had to use boot-repair from ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair to get
Ubuntu to boot.)
