I removed the upstream version a while ago using the web sight you advised as the machine was starting up automatically on the latest version of Ubuntu but the wireless connection was not working. The brightness control is still working from the keyboard and from system settings. The only annoying thing now is that it does not remember the brightness setting after shut down and always starts on full brightness.
