I subsequently tried running the program as root via the following command:
gksudo usb-creator-gtk
However the result was essentially the same: the progress bar gets to
40%, starts installing the bootloader, shows a slidy side-to-side bar
for about 2 minutes, then crashes without showing any detailed error
message.
