Thanks for your support. As I have written, no of the kernels I have tested has the capability of "/sys/power/pm_trace". I'm now on 3.8.0-999-generic (from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/) and have no "/sys/power/pm_trace" (see ls_sys_power.txt attached).
