Prior to Precise i had Maverick (i386), but I had another hardware on my computer and the printer worked there. That computer passed out, so I had to get new one. The first (and only) system i installed on the new (this) computer was Precise (amd64) and the printer did not worked. So the answer to your question is: "I don't know, if this issue occured in a relase prior to Precise (amd64) on this hardware." I only know that on my netbook (Asus Eee PC 901) i have Precise (i386) and the printer works there.
