Here's a workaround for now using the kernels in Post #22, assuming that
they are pinned "Lock Version" with Synaptic

1)  $ sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

Change the line for:

GRUB_DEFAULT=0

to

GRUB_DEFAULT=2>0

close the file

$ sudo update-grub

reboot
