What did you try to do before? It looks like you were playing around
with purging packages, or interrupting a previous dist-upgrade or
something like that? Please try to reinstall it with "sudo apt-get
install nvidia-common".

Closing, as this is a problem with package managment and not with
u-d-common in particular.
