I believe the issue is that keep is trying to backup files which are
owned by root. I'm not backing up as root, and have the box checked for
keep not to backup special files. keep should simply skip files for
which it doesn't have permissions, not crash with cryptic error
messages.  Since a number of programs, including google earth, create
files for which the user doesn't have permission, keep appears to be
pretty useless.
