Maybe I understood it  wrongly, but I had to add jme.ko to
/path/to/usb/stick/install/initrd.gz rather than
.../install/netboot/ubuntu_installer/.../initrd.gz.

Anyway, the workaround worked for me.  But it is a tedious task that not
everybody is able to do.  I've had to do the patch since Ubuntu 11.04.
This is four Ubuntu versions up to now.  Please include this single file
into the installer.
