The 'cpio' extract happened several days ago. However, the klibc
package included 'dash'. I went through all the directories from my
cpio and then used '/var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list' to find the package
responsible for the files. Then I used apt-get to download only and
then used dpkg to force a re-install. It is quite possible that this is
responsible (or maybe I have some strange multilib package). How does
one do,

  dpkg: error processing dash (--configure):
Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
  reinstall it before attempting configuration.

Like, what command should I run? 'apt-get --force dash'?
