The problem is the package the java code has been compiled with. Java is
now open source, but the Java-Compiler has not been released yet, so
Debian based distributions still use free compilers. If free compilers
are used strange thigs happen.
I suggest you get the .deb packages from OOo itself and install it on
your system and everything will work - believe me, I've tested it.
But you will soon find (like I did) different bugs. Those ones should go
for tracking to OOo then!
