Public bug reported:
Somewhere between Dapper and Edgy, things wend horribly wrong with
libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal. In Dapper, and in Debian unstable as
of today, this package does what it suggests, which is provides a sasl2
library for GSSAPI support, using Heimdal kerberos libraries.
In Ubuntu Dapper and Feisty, this package is empty (contains no
libraries) and the source cyrus-sasl2 package seems to have been
lobotomized to remove all traces of Heimdal. This is a grievous error!
Heimdal's in-memory credentials cache is of strategic importance!
Furthurmore, it's not like anyone is/was forced to use Heimdal with the
Debian package, you can simply install the SASL2 GSSAPI library using
your choice of Kerberos libraries.
There was mention of removing Kerberos4 support in #28137, perhaps that
effort was over-zealous?
** Affects: cyrus-sasl2 (Ubuntu)
