Public bug reported: Please support the XDG base directory specification. Specifically I believe the best practice is to save and read from $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/.byobu and fallback to reading from ~/.byobu if the new file isn't found.
This will make backups noticeably easier and will help reduce the excessively cluttered home directory problem.
