You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I am using Kubuntu 12.10 64bit, Thunderbird 17.0.2, Global Menu Bar
Extension 3.6.4.
Before attempting to use the global menu bar (I have KDE's Window
Menubar widget in Plasma), right-clicking on a message works as it
should to bring up a context menu. After using the global menu, context
menus no longer show properly. They will draw a filled box like it is
trying to render the menu and seems to be of the appropriate size, but
it does not look like any text is rendered and goes away promptly. I
have tried disabling desktop effects in KDE with the same results. I
originally found this issue by opening up the preferences so I could
pick new colors for the default background and foreground. The color
pickers would not show either and would show the same issue. And this
gets very annoying when I am trying to change a To: field to a CC: field
when composing an email...
After disabling the Global Menu Bar Extension and restarting
Thunderbird, everything works normally: context menus, color pickers,
etc. I was even able to complete the process of changing the default
colors by using Thunderbird's native menu at that point. After re-
enabling the GMBE, context menus worked until I used the global menu,
then context menus stopped working again. I am somewhat at a loss. I
don't mind just disabling the extension, but others may have this issue
as well. If there is anything I can provide to help with the bug, please
let me know.
More information that may help: I am running on a laptop with an AMD APU
(CPU/GPU combo) using the proprietary graphics drivers (fglrx
2:9.000-0ubuntu3). 8GB ram, 128gb SSD + 640gb HDD. It is a dual boot
system which also includes Windows 7 installed in a small partition on
the SSD. I have searched forums and whatnot and found that some people
could delete their pulse-audio cookie to help. I tried this and it did
not help.
