I have a Santa Rosa MabBook Pro, 15", and after upgrading alsa-base and
alsa-utils, triyng the change all the switches in the alsa mixer, and
compiling last version of the alsa drive, following the tutorial on the
Ubuntu Wiki ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto ), it
still doesn't work.

Of course I tried adding "options snd-hda-intel model=w2jc" on different files,
such as /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base but for now I can't get sound working, for
the laptop speakers or even the headphones.
