I think the following test should work: 1. Enable precise-proposed, apt-get update 2. Via jockey, install the updated 173 series driver, and check that the correct version 173.14.36-0ubuntu0.0.1 was installed 3. Reboot, test that it works 4. Update to 12.04.2 stack with sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-quantal libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-quantal libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-quantal 5. Reboot, test that the nvidia driver still works
