** Description changed:

Driving me nuts... My kids use this ubuntu 9.04 computer (up-to-date as
of this post) and they each have a separate account. Being kids they
tend to use switch user rather than logout. This is causing regular
problems with external devices - specifically USB key drives.

  Use case:
- User 1 logs in, inserts key drive, yay it opens, realises its user 2's key,
ejects.
+ User 1 logs in, inserts key drive, ya it opens, realities its user 2's key,
ejects.
Some time later, user 2 logs in (via switch user), inserts key drive, it
doesn't open but it is visible in nautilus in the "computer" view, clicking on
it gives the message "unable to mount drive"
- Dad (me) gets called in to explain why linux is so shit and won't work with
user 2's key drive any more, "its not"... lets see, terminal, mount, ok the
drive is mounted already, by user 1, but user 2 inserted it. Actually I agree
- that totally is shit. I don't know how to fix it. I don't even know how to
work around it except to disable fast user switching.

work with user 2's key drive any more, "its not"... lets see, terminal, mount,
ok the drive is mounted already, by user 1, but user 2 inserted it. Actually I
agree this is not working properly. I don't know how to fix it. I don't even
know how to work around it except to disable fast user switching.

But the good thing about linux is that you can report bugs like this and
  they will get fixed :-)
