I #remmed the line "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" from /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Cold boot, and m-audio card now shows up as Number 0 in the alsamixer. Clear progress. Tried to download a .pls file and play in audaciuos and I can see signal levels in the audacious window, but the program returns "ALSA error snd_mixer_find_selem failed. " Closer yet but no sound. I remember when the card worked, it was in default position # 0 in ALSAMIXER, the way it now is. It came up in Mudita24 as m-audio 2496 but does not do so now. Very close. Dual boot uefi BIOS lists onboard audio as disabled.
