If the battery is removed from the laptop, then it will boot and reboot normally in a few seconds.
Another observation is that after the slow boot, the line "ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery present)" shows up twice in dmesg. Once early on and again after the timeouts and AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP ACPI exception. But with the battery removed the line "ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery absent)" appears twice and only separated by a millisecond or so. I see there was a change to drivers/acpi/battery.c between 3.0.29 and 3.0.35.
