** Description changed: There is still the annoying PC beep at shut down, I stopped it with this sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, then placed this – blacklist pcspkrat – at the bottom and saved and rebooted. Beep gone. Did some checking and found it seemed to stem from Fast User Switch Applet. I have tracked down the fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0 that changed from quiet to annoying beep. It was fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu8_i386.deb, Intrepidfast-user-switch-applet loaded into jaunty RC fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu6_i386.deb worked well no count down as you expect and no loud beep. Jaunty RC fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu7_i386.deb had a slight glitch on first load up but was fine after that no count down and no beep. fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu8_i386.deb - annoying beep, no count down and loud Beep fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu9_i386.deb - annoying beep fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu10_i386.deb - annoying beep fast-user-switch-applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu13_i386.deb latest release - annoying, count down and loud beep all have the annoying beep even after you let the 60 seconds go by. Gnome: 2.26.1 (Ubuntu 2009-04-14) Kernel: 2.6.28-11-generic (#42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009) GCC Version: 4.3.3 (i486-linux-gnu) What you expected to happen: to use the fast switch applet to shut down pc or laptop without the loud pc speaker beep - What happened instead: If you shit down brfore the cout down is over it swill beep and if you leave it it still beeps at the end of the shut down. + What happened instead: beep and if you leave it it still beeps at the end of the shut down.
