Dave Lentz - I have a tried headphones in which I get no sound, and also a cord which has speaker plug on one end and Audi plugs (red and white) on the other end plugged into a surround sound. When maxing the later, I can hear a very fait sound during test, but only during test.
Raymond - I tried hda-analyzer, but when attempting to run it (python py.run) , I get this error.
