Public bug reported: This happened on wednesday this week (day 5), after the update, when I turned the computer on again, the system got stuck on text mode (The purple splash screen with Ubuntu logo appeared and I was thrown to text mode to input user and password).
I searched a lot over the internet (thanks to LiveCD) and nothing I did was able to fix this issue, here are some commands I tried with no luck: cat /etc/inittab | grep initdeafult dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg startx (the system freezes) apt-get remove --purge x11_common (I couldn´t remove x11 and couldn´t install ubuntu desktop) apt-get install ubuntu-desktop I noticed that among the updates there were x11 ones (I don´t know if this was the problem) but, as they were from the official source, I installed as I always do with Canonical´s updates. I can´t provide you with more information about this once I was stuck on text mode and I didn´t know the right commands, there were no grub options on startup or messages during boot and I couldn´t access the Recovery Mode too, but as I have only one computer at the moment and couldn´t stay without it, I had to format and reinstall Ubuntu. My new installation of Ubuntu is up to date and working fine, but I am really afraid this happens again. Here are my detailed specs: https://gist.github.com/Lord-Avallon/4521727 Here is the result of the command lsb_release -rd: Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release: 12.04 I am sorry if I am doing anything wrong, but this is my first serious problem I faced using Ubuntu, so it´s my first bug report. I hope it helps you to improve this excellent O.S. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 12.04 mode stuck text ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1120008 Title: Got stuck on text mode after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1120008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
