There should be enough system resources to support the higher resolution. The OS isn't detecting the monitor, and is using a default driver set at 1024x768; which is too low to be convenient sometimes. I've tried a couple of different recommended fixes. Installing driver add ons, making an xorg.conf, attempting to select/edit a new resolution with xrandr. None of these worked. I even tried two different Nvidia cards, both of which ran very glitchy, and would either lock the system up, or not work at all.
