Thanks for the workaround, it works for me too.

But my case it's a bit different. I am using Arch Linux and an HD5850.
With mesa 9.0.2 and xf86-video-ati 7.1.0, once the profile is not
"default", the issue would be gone. With the git version of those from a
unofficial repo, once the profile has been changed to non-default once
(which means even if I change it back to default again), the issue would
be gone too. (Though there would be some "stuttering" instead.)
