eog /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png
Results in "Fatal error reading PNG image file: Not a PNG file"
Renaming s/.png/.jpg/
Makes it work.
Note that $ file /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png
Is not confused and correctly detects that file as being jpeg.
