Mark, Thank you for answering. At least now I understand *why* you are doing this beyond "we want to". And thank you for keeping the project open source so I can say "no" to your "no" :)
For anyone interested, I have scripted a process that will check for updates to the raring unity package sources, download them, apply my patch, and if everything is successful, upload the repackaged source to my PPA.
