I have just bought a new laptop with Nvidia 8400M GT (lspci says 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0426 (rev a 1)) and it doesn't work out of the box in kernel 2.6.20-16 (64bit) (with the restricted-modules installed).
So, I had to uninstall the restricted modules and install the nVidia official driver (the driver you find at the webpage of nVidia: I used 100.14.09-pkg2). It worked, more or less: the screen before kdm is black, as if it was turned off, but then it lighten and appears the login screen. Seems that the drivers aren't properly running until the login screen. The main problem is that i have also a wifi card (lspci says 06:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)) that works with the restricted-modules, so I have to choose between wifi or screen (or install the intel driver too, which isn't trivial). I can't install the restricted-modules without the nVidia driver. -- nvidia driver doesn't work at latest upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/39073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
