** Description changed:

in ubuntu 12.04, upon starting a vpnc tunnel would not clobber manually
added routes that existed before the tunnel was started up. in 12.10 it
does, so manual override routes must be readded after reconnecting each
- time. this is a pain in the ass.
+ time. this is a pain.

  ie,
before bringing up tunnel, you add a have such as:
  10.0.1.20 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 eth0

in 12.04, the routes would have been:
  10.0.1.20 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 eth0
  10.0.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tun0

in 12.10 after the tunnel comes up, that route has been forcibly removed and
only the route added by the tunnel exists:
  10.0.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tun0

  suggested fix:
in the "routes" config section for the vpn, you can add routes that will be
added when the tunnel comes up, but it only allows address, netmask, gateway,
and metric. if a device field were added, then the more specific override route
could be added.
