I think I see the problem on an X230 with Intel graphics and a SSD. Does black screen mean text login screen? I get that more often than the low graphics messages. When I get the text login and look at the Xorg log I see the X server failed to start with the following error: (EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to open DRM device for pci:0000:00:02.0: No such file or directory
