Chris,

I don't know how to report this as a bug so I'll just tell you and see if
you know.

A friend of mine has been having a horrible time with 12.10 and really
various other releases as well: the system freezes up in a manner very
reminiscent of the dual monitor problem I have--though he's not using a
second monitor. He's had to run with a rather old kernel in order to get
going at all.

He's been very disgruntled about this, feeling that the people who deal
with Ubuntu bugs were trying to find an excuse to ignore them. He also says
that this "syndrome" seems to have been reported many times by many people
and always goes nowhere.

Anyway, when I saw that the Feb 23 intel-drm-nightly solved the dual
monitor problem, I suggested that he try it. He had a Linux-booting problem
very similar to the "you're not having much fun" problem I had but then it
worked for him.

Here are his words:

Hah! I'm up with 994. Running for about 90 min with two sessions of
Chromium. First Rachmaninof/Paganini and now Brahms piano. Tough time
coming up - took three tries. Died black the first, recovery mode on second
got badly tangled, third graphic seems ok.

If this really fixes this seemingly widespread problem, some folks should
see that the word gets out and quiets the waters. If there's something I
can do to help with this, please let me know.

Thanks,
Keith
