Public bug reported:
Following update to latest Kernel system will no longer boot - process
freezes at black screen with mouse and no input can break out. System
requires restart.
In addition I cannot revert to using previous Kernel versions - boot
still fails. I can only boot after editing GRUB with nomodeset or
entering recovery mode.
I have managed to get the system to boot successfully after editing GRUB
as per below but this does not result in a successful boot every time:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i915.modeset=1 acpi_osi=Linux"
I have attempted to reinstall the xorg drivers with the following:
xserver-xorg-video-intel but I am running the latest version already.
I have spent 5 days researching and attempting to fix issue myself but
with no resolution, hence the bug report.
