My system's configuration has changed and I'm now running KDM/KDE instead of GDM/Gnome. I can tell you that on Feisty using KDM/KDE I was not able to repro this. I logged in to the lower rez account, logged out, then logged in to a different one, and the resolution was set properly for both accounts.
