After a fresh boot, it only took FIVE MINUTES for this to happen again, and
this time it was NOT by clicking on Thunderbird launcher icon. It was when I
right-clicked on a zip file in Nautilus and chose "extract here".
It may be completely unrelated to Thunderbird (though TB was open).

It is URGENT that the source of this REGRESSION is found and whatever package
is involved it IMMEDIATELY rolled-back to the last non-broken version.
This is making Ubuntu completely unusable.

I will confirm this though this is my own bug, because for bugs like
this (whole system crash/hang) there's no point in wayting for someone
to confirm (which may take ages). This needs immediate action.

** Summary changed:

- Whole system hangs; Ctrl+Alt+F1 followed by Ctrl+Alt+F7 fixes it (when
possible at all)
+ At random times whole system hangs; on occasions Ctrl+Alt+F1 followed by
Ctrl+Alt+F7 fixes it, other times have to do hardware power off

** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Confirmed
