I'm on 12.10 kernel 3.5.0-25 and I'm booting off an SSD (which seems to
be a common symptom).

When the blanks screen occurs, I know it wants the FS crypt password.
So I type it in blind on this black screen.  Then the rest of boot
occurs normally.  I never see the Grub screen.

I tried adding a 5 second sleep before the "exec lightdm" line on
/etc/init/lightdm.conf.  This did not solve the problem.

My adapter is:

Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS780 [Radeon HD 3200]

Linux 3.5.0-25-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 25 18:26:58 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
