I have a laptop with two hard drives (One of them already has a Windows 8 UEFI install). I managed to get it working by removing the win8 drive from the system (http://yoush.homelinux.org:8079/tech/addremove-linux- hard-drive-at-runtime) and then adding it back after ubiquity presented the partitioning options.
