Public bug reported:

After the upgrade to xorg-server (2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.12) (the xserver-
common and xserver-xorg-core packages), the function key fn-f8 stops
working. It used to toggle the trackpad on and off. I'm seeing this
regression on two thinkpad laptops (t60 and t420).

I can provide additional information if needed.
