EXT4: Cannot access large files (>20GB) with tar on external devices

  Ubuntu 12.4
  Kernel: 3.2.0-38-generic #61-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 19 12:18:21 UTC 2013 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  Output from Tar:
  gzip: stdin: Input/output error
tar: Unerwartetes Dateiende im Archiv. // Unexpected EOF
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The harddrive is thereby resetting with an ugly noise. I reproduced
this problem with two different external hard-drives.
