The computer fails to suspend by itself when left idle. Perhaps it has something to do with pm-utils or with gnome-control-center failing to save changes to configuration. To reproduce: Set the time out in power settings to 5 minutes and wait for 15 minutes. The screen goes dark after 10 minutes but the computer keeps running...
