The bug is still occurring in the new kernel (3.9.0-030900rc3-generic)
I'll look at the bugzilla report too.

Hi all
Im testing Ubuntu 13.04 with kernel 3.8.0-ubuntu on my VPCEG13EB (i3/HD3000).
My notebook have a long-standing bug with backlight: any distro can not
change my backlight by default. I Regulate manually my backlight in
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness(form 0 to 4882). All
distros/kernels/DE regulate the backlight in
/sys/class/acpi_video0/brightness(from 0 to 15). Same kernel flags change from
~/acpi_video0 to ~/sony but still not working.
But it always works on max by default on non-3.8 kernels. On kernel 3.8 when
i boot up works ok, but when I sleep/wakeup my backlight is zero, so i cant see
nothing in screen. Conecting the notebook on my TV and making an "# echo 4882 >
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" makes everything work fine
again.
- My Arch Linux has the same bug when I try 3.8, in 3.7 everything works
- ok.
