I tried to fix the problem by fetching the driver from Realtek 
(http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#2)
  but it would not build. The output of the make command is in the attached 
file.
It does however build correctly on 3.7.8, and there the card reader works fine.
