Public bug reported:
In Raring ringtail. New install. Home directory mounted over NFS.
Audio icon on menu bar shows speaker icon with dashes. Clicking on icon
the menu only has volume control set to zero (can't change).,Rhythmbox
link and play controls, and Sound Settings link.
Would expect to have speaker icon with sound graphic, more options under
the menu and to be able to adjust sound settings (e.g. volume).
Reason seems to be that pulseaudio fails to start. In Syslog a series of
error reports a second or two apart reporting:
Mar 22 09:11:44 unbuntu-desktop pulseaudio[4095]: [pulseaudio] authkey.c:
Failed to open cookie file '/home/david/.config/pulse/cookie': No such file or
directory
Mar 22 09:11:44 unbuntu-desktop pulseaudio[4095]: [pulseaudio] authkey.c:
Failed to load authorization key '/home/david/.config/pulse/cookie': No such
file or directory
Mar 22 09:11:44 unbuntu-desktop pulseaudio[4098]: [pulseaudio] core-util.c:
