What I did was install raring amd64 iso with defaults as it is in daily
build.  I didn't do any changes, just installed, booted, then brought up
displays to set the correct resolution for the monitor which is
1600x900, wide, with all text running horizontal wide.

raring i386 iso install is fine.

I'll take a look at why the default daily build may be setting rotation
differently than it used to.
