>From your description it sounds like either an ACPI problem, or a recurrence of a previous issue <a href="<a href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1061639">seen here</a> that can cause the system to hang on shutdown with a tty printout of mount: / is busy followed by a system halt. Try setting acpi=force in GRUB, and if that makes no impact, try shutting down from a tty, and note the output before it becomes non responsive. As a fix to the previous issue was pushed out, make sure that you have the latest version of ifupdown (should be 0.7.2ubuntu2). If all of this fails, add more info, and that will make it easier to flesh out what is occurring here.
