Hi, this bug report is a bit old but as there is no answer yet, I'll describe my own experience with it. I had a similar error after login on a fresh install of precise desktop. Launching do-release-upgrade on command line reported an invalid proxy error. I found out that I had an invalid proxy declaration in /etc/apt/apt.conf. So, correcting the Acquire::http::proxy line with the valid proxy address was the solution for me. Best regards
