Just an update: after another restart I lost my network connection and
sound. The network manager and volume manager both said I didn't have
devices, and neither my sound card nor my network card use restricted
drivers. Removing the Restricted Driver manager and restarting gave me
my network back, and I manager to get sound back after about 3 hours,
though I'm afraid to restart my machine at this point.

After getting everything back up I noticed I wasn't getting the graphics
power I should, and I realized that the nVidia driver wasn't loading
anymore. Eventually I got it all back up, but in the end I think it
would be easier to do a fresh install of Gutsy, and then remove the
Restricted Driver manager before doing anything else.
