Binary package hint: compiz
As of recent gutsy upgrades, when compiz terminates, the entire desktop
freezes. This happens on logout, and also after typing metacity
--replace (in which case the desktop freezes so quickly that the next
shell prompt does not even appear). Ctrl+Alt+F1 does nothing, although
the cursor still moves with the mouse.
