Just about 10 minutes ago, Update told me that there were updates. So, I
applied them.
Now the GPU error that I had before has returned.
I have confirmed that I am still using the 3.9.0-030900rc5-generic upstream
kernel. So, I tried running from a terminal window at the command prompt
'ubuntu-bug linux' and I was told that since I am using a mainline kernel that
it is better to report the bug
at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/. I have requested an account there to do so.

Clearly one should not apply updates when you are using a mainline
kernel. So, I will try to report this new problem there.
