Solving a bug with another bug is not an option. This function works properly with most drivers, and can be disabled (which is an acceptable workaround, we'll write it on our wiki). (and this function is used in GTK, chromium, Qt, etc, so there is likely to be no major problem with it, excepted with a few drivers that keep improving).
