There is a know bug fixed in upstream by commit

Without this patch dar failed to remove a directory when restoring a
differential backup.
Can you apply this patch (for convenience I included it in attachment)
to the 2.4.2 currently packaged in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
I don't think there is any regression that could be caused by this
patch.
