** Description changed:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. At random times everything freezes,
including the mouse and the keyboard. I cannot open any other ttys
(Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6). My computer uses UEFI and so when I tried to run
memtest86 I got the error message error: unknown command 'linux16', but
I suspect that this is an unrelated issue to the freezing. I have sshd
in to the computer and run "sudo cat /proc/kmsg", but no error messages
appeared and the terminal froze - nothing happened when I pressed
  Ctrl+C.

My computer has an Intel 15-3219M 2.5GHz CPU and 6GB RAM. I have an
Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated GPU. My computer is a Dell Inspiron
and I also run Windows 8.

  Many thanks
